The LRC holds a large collection of books split into the following collections: Adult Fiction, Biography, Junior Fiction, LGBT Collection, Non-Fiction, Quick Reads, Scottish Studies and Young Adult Fiction.
The following booklists may be useful when looking for books on a particular topic or theme:
We have around 800 Junior Fiction (JF) titles. JF is aimed at the 10-14 age group and includes stories aimed at pre-teens and young teens. The collection includes many authors that may already be favourites from Primary School such as Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Jeff Kinney and J.K. Rowling.
This School Library is a SAFE SPACE
This space welcomes and respects ALL people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that all persons regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression should be treated with dignity and respect.
We have achieved the LGBT Youth Scotland Silver Charter Award. LGBT Youth Scotland is the largest youth and community-based organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Scotland. Through delivering youth groups, one-to-one youth work, and extensive work in schools and teacher training and support across the country, their vision is to help make Scotland the best place to grow up for LGBT people.
We have an LGBT Collection available to pupils and staff of the School.
Please see our LGBT Booklist to see our holdings. The list includes books that have been suggested by pupils and staff and well as selections from the Stonewall Secondary School Booklist, the Book Trust’s Teen and YA books with LGBT Characters list, the Scottish Book Trust’s 13 Teen Books Featuring LGBT Characters and Experiences list and the Guardian’s list, What are the best LGBT books for children, teenagers and YAs?
If you would like to suggest a title that isn’t on this list, please get in touch. You can make a book recommendation in person, by placing a form in the ‘Suggestions Box’ or by emailing us at LochgellyHS.Library@fife.gov.uk
Graphic Novels and Manga
We have a growing Graphic Novels collection with a particular focus on Manga. Currently we have volumes from the following series: Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, and No. 6.
Adult and Young Adult Fiction
We have around 350 Young Adult Fiction (YA) titles. YA is aimed at the 14+ age group and as such often deals with challenging issues more frankly than can be found in Junior Fiction. YA is shelved alongside Adult Fiction but use isn't restricted by age.
