With the rising cost of living and the continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, we here at Lochgelly High School are trying to assist our school community in any way that we can.
One way is to ensure that all families can access the financial assistance that they are entitled to as a means of helping them through these difficult times.
Below is a list of possible avenues to financial support available at this time.
Pupil Equity Fund
The Scottish Attainment Challenge was launched by the First Minister in February 2015. It is underpinned by The National Improvement Framework, Curriculum for Excellence and Getting it Right for Every Child.
To ensure barriers to meeting the Scottish Attainment Challenge were removed, headteachers will receive £147 million of Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) which they will decide how best to invest to support disadvantaged pupils. This includes a top up payment of £20 million, recognising the new and additional challenges schools face as a result of the pandemic.
The funding received at Lochgelly High School has already been put to good use and is funding the following interventions, programmes and awards.
CR Smith Hand Picked Academy
Working in partnership with Hand Picked from CR Smith to offer one manned day per week within the school Employability Hub, supporting our young people in applying for their intended destination.
Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Open to all S4 to S6 pupils, a DofE Award can raise a young persons aspirations and open doors to employment whilst bringing together the school community.
School Of Hard Knocks
SOHK for Schools is a unique three-year intervention that uses rugby coaching, classroom sessions and mentoring to improve attendance and behaviour at school. It is run in association with SRU (Scottish Rugby Union).
School Engagement Officer
Supporting pupils with engagement, attendance management and a sense of belonging within school. Building links between the school community and the police.
First Chances Fife is a programme in conjunction wit St Andrew's University that aims to raise the aspirations and achievements of pupils as they progress through their education. The programme works with students from P7 to S6.
Pupil Support Officers
Two members of the Pupil Support Department who's role is supporting and nurturing pupils and to help them with engagement, attendance management and a sense of belonging within school.
Raising Numeracy attainment among ‘On the Cusp’ young people, i.e. those accessing mainstream lessons but whose attainment in Numeracy is weak.
To raise attainment for a group of ‘On the Cusp’ S1 and S2 young people from level one/level two reading and writing.
PT Equity and Excellence
Tracking and recording all young people who have had intervention from a PEF funded resource. Facilitating Digital Equity rollout. DofE Manager.
Equity Boxes (All registration classes)
Some of our S6 Leadership Team (Sara, Katie, Eve & John), along with Ms Conroy (Pupil Support) and Mr Annan (DET) have been working hard to ensure that all of our young people can have as positive a start to their day as is possible. Every registration class is now equipped with a box containing basic some school supplies, such as water, breakfast bars, pencils, jotters, sanitary products, etc, and can be utilised by all pupils.
